Oh well time to remove the code
- 10/20/2006
You know I joined a ring because I thought it sounded a good idea. Realistically looking at the logs, the fruit of that idea sent me a mear handful of visitors, and so bearing in mind that a good percentage of that few are only passing by or being nosey this pay for membership plan wont be attracting my money.
I read somewhere I have till 2007 to decide, so why prolong the pain and suffering (as if) with my site ranked 4 and being listed on DMOZ I really can afford to lose what little traffic it brings
So rather than pay and provide free advertising on my site for webring I will remove the code.
To those who are leaving and joining other rings which are also free, remember free is only a sprat to catch a mackeral. Sooner or later it will be decision time yet again, so my advice is if you are reasonably happy here and the ring is bringing you what you would term as goodish results.......better the devil you know.
Just a point, I get more traffic from myspace in one month than what webring gave me in one year, and I dont even have a myspace account, so gawd knows how that is happening. So there are other ways of getting visitors, and get yourself linked to similar sites properly, it's amazing how many people visit the links section of a site, and ignore rings altogether....... I do

I debated removing the code entirely, but decided against it. Checking my site's statistics it was far easier for me to delete the rings that I wasn't getting any traffic from (most of them) then to give up Webring entirely. The majority of my traffic comes from having good keywords that Google picks up.
While I've separated the wheat from the chaff in regards to memberships, that doesn't mean I agree with the way the new management is going about this. Communication is horrible here. The only way I found out was from some of the ring managers whose rings I was on. Then it took a Google search to even find the web pages with the information regarding the transition.
Good show Webring.
