Sad but true story pt.1 - 12/28/2003
The forum 2400 character limit made a perfectly good article into this: (There sure seem to be a lot of things in place to bug webring users!)*When I joined the webrings a few years ago I had a great idea for a web ring*Many pages,in our community *All needing some kind of connectivity*When I joined up I found the welcome message had been misleading. I COULDN'T create the web ring - I'd have to join an existing one first!*If I joined a webring with similar objectives, our community would get swallowed up by that one*At the same time I ran a risk of someone else stealing my idea of uniting all web pages relating to THIS type of thing*I set about making ANOTHER web page, dealing with something completely different,to end up being able to create the webring I had in mind*YEARS went by as I established the SECOND web page*Finally I was accepted into a webring, and could at last make my own*Now,all I am getting from people (who would have been very enthusiastic a few years ago),is:*"Oh,webrings? That's so passť."*"I don't want to bother with that, pasting some tacky code onto my perfect page*"Sticking a webring table would ruin the current style & look of my page.",etc*While I want my webring to succeed,I totally understand these arguments... If I had been able to make the webring (as advertised) when I joined the webrings,I would not be in my current position

One way to make a webring that is widely acceptable is to rebuild the navbar using an image map.

Not only does this stop distortion by others' page settings - but it also allows you to create a design that fits the mood of your community - and can be as asset to the page.

For example, contrast the old, new and standard rings on this page (and on their webring page) ...
